Good afternoon.....I am trying to teach myself to cross stitch....it is NOT as easy as one might think....I definitely need a pair of magnifying glasses..and a better lamp...and the proper fabric always helps.....I was attempting to do my first project on tightly woven linen..and it just was not working for me...but with some MUCH appreciated help from Wendy of Pineberry Lane, I think I've got it figure out....well, I hope so anyway..we shall see when it's done I guess.....Anyway...What a sweetheart Wendy is..she is so helpful and I absolutely LOVE her website and her designs..they are fantastic!! Stop by & see her when you have a moment :).~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here are the new "Milk Paint" Acrylics I found in a wonderful shop here in the area..they are made to replicate the old milk paints. I am using these on my newest CatchPenny Village home and I LOVE how they look...very, very colonial and true to the era! They also have indoor and outdoor latex paints..and I found a perfect one for our living room..which I am really hoping to get painted soon.

Here is a photo of some gorgeous linen napkins and some great cheese cloth I got while we were on vacation. The linen napkins were from an estate sale ..Mom found them & picked them for me..she's always getting me great stuff like this at yard sales, auctions and estate sales...:)she's so great! The cheese cloth is different than I've ever found...its actual "Cloth" in that it's not flimsy like the usual cheesecloth I have found around here..it is thicker and heavier...kinda like muslin..:)I can't wait to use it. I purchased it at a wine and beer making shop! The napkins I will be making into undergarments for a couple of ladye's I have begun and the cheese cloth will aprons and such...:)

We FINALLY have some pumpkins coming in the pumpkin patch....we didn't think we were going to have any this year..we've had so much rain that our vegetables were rotting on the vines..but we've had hot and dry weather for the last 2 weeks and everything is coming along wonderfully now..which is a very pleasant surprise....I found this little guy and one other one in the patch yesterday morning and I was most happy to see them...these are pie pumpkins...yum!!!

Now I'm headed down to the farm to bring Mark some more water..he's raking hay again today...I went with him for three hours yesterday...it was 90* out..not a cloud in the sky and no breeze! Now you all know..I usually LOVE to do hay....not yesterday I didn't....it was so damn hot .....I swear to you..you could have fried an egg on the fender I was sitting on..and after three straight hours..my butt hurt so bad I was wishing I was anywhere but there.....I wanted to leap off that tractor and run home!!! My clothes were absolutely drenched through.....And..to top it all off...one of my flip flops fell off (most likely from the river of sweat pouring off of me) and is now raked up somewhere in the hay and will become part of a square bale of hay later this afternoon...never to be seen again..except maybe by a cow or horse while they are enjoying their dinner!!!!!!!!!! They'll probably eat the flip flop..develop a stomach issue and die..and I'll be haunted by it for the rest of my life!!!!!
Thankfully my sweet husband took me out for Martguerita's, nacho's and pizza last night....which helped me forget all about my overheated day :)
Have a great afternoon, Doreen

19 delightful friends dropped in for a visit:
doreen ~~ looks like you're going to be very busy; I love cross-stitch and stitched a long time ago. I'm not sure my eyes could handle it now. Thank you for the link to Pineberry Lane. I purchased one of their old fashioned scissors.
~~Laura
Good morning Laura..thank you ever so much for stopping by for a visit. I am loving cross stitching..mine is finally looking like there is a design on the fabric...:)Yipee!!!!

pS AmIalone in wishing we were back at the lake?
I was beginning to wonder if I would figure it out..and I wouldn't have without help...it's not easy ..especially when you are using the wrong fabric!!!
I am missing the lake..but you know me..I'm not a traveler like you and Dad .I'm a home body...one week out of the year is enough for me :)I had a wonderful time..but I'm glad to be home :)
Love ya
Doreen, so you're taking up cross stitching.
I am no expert but I've done a few and I find I just don't have the patience that it takes to be committed to that particular craft.
I want to see results a whole lot faster than it takes me to finish one.
I've got two that are just waiting to be completed. I should have started out with something small.
Good luck to you!
Audrey=)
Hi Audrey...yes...I am attempting to take up cross stitch..:)..I've ALWAYS loved the art and have always wanted to try it...and you know me..I am ALWAYS trying something new..I love to learn new things..I'm hoping it's something I can master...I love the fact that it's portable too..as when I have to be away from home..I can still be creating :)
Thanks so much for stopping by to visit..:)Smiles, Doreen
*giggle* Your flip-flop will make an interesting cowpatty for sure, Doreen! LOL
The pumkins are so pretty! Deer ate all our blooms, so no pumpkin patch for us this year. :(
:)...that is for sure Paula. We've had deer in our patch as well..but they were kind and left us a few blooms! We have a mother and fawn that live here in our woods..gosh how I love that!
Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello my dear!
Hugs, Doreen
Hi Doreen! I love that child's vanity too - I could just see it in a bathroom or bedroom! (You know I will always ship if there's something you want.) Where did you get that "milk" paint? Love it! I used to cross stich, but my eyes can't take it anymore. Have a great day!!! Dawn
Hi again, sorry I hadn't signed out of my hubby's account, so the comment above is from me! Dawn
Oooh, I did not know that Olde Century Colors made little tubes of acrylic milk paint! We just repainted our living room with a big can of their regular milk paint (love it!!) and the dining room is up next. Their colors are really fantastic.
Have fun cross-stitching - I have never tried it, but I don't doubt that it's hard!
Hugs,
Stephanie
Dawn..LOL..I do that same thing with my facebook accounts..I have one for myself...and one for Vermont Harvest and I find myself getting them messed up and confused a LOT..just to many irons in the fire I guess :)
I found the milk paint in a nearby town called Greenwhich, NY..it's a GREAT shop..I feel bad..as I can not remember the name..when I bought the paints it was my first visit there..I'll have to find the name and let you know :)
Thank so much for stopping by to say hi this morning :)
Hugs, D
Hi Steph....I was pretty excited to find them..they are wonderful...and I can not wait to use their room paints in my living room..if I ever have 5 minutes to paint it that is :)
Thanks so much for stopping by to say hi. SO glad you had such a great vacation and can't wait to see the pictures.
Hugs, D
Doreen your camping trip looked wonderful, I love the photos of the kids :)
I just ordered some punch needle items and for the exact same reason, they are portable. I so hate to waste time somewhere when you can create. I love the look of the art too just hope I have the patience :)
Hi Patty :). Thank you for stopping by. I too love punch needle..I've made a couple and am hoping to do a couple more very soon. I'm know you will definitely have the patience for it.
:)Doreen
Ditto that - It's also been too too long since I have been here to see all your beautiful things! As I've said before - your sense of color is just stunning. Right up my alley. If you're around on Saturday - give me a holler (literally). Right next to Ted's store. Can't miss it! LOL
Thanks, those little granddaughters are the light of my life! Becoming 7 is quite a big deal. We are having her birthday party on Sunday evening. Ashley and Tony decided on Lucianna because his family is Italian and they wanted to use an Italian name. I'm finally getting excited about our move, I will post pictures as it goes along. Thanks for the support! Dawn
Hi Doreen!
I love milk paint and made some one time-it wasn't authentic, but I have an adventurous spirit and love learning new things too. I'm going to try some of it on my dolls sometime. I can't wait to see your cross stitching-I love it too. I guess we are all birds of a feather here!
Hooray for the wee pumpkin!
Love, Debra
Hi Doreen, It looks like your cross-stitch is coming along beautifully! I would definitely need extra strength magnifying glasses to stitch on some linens I've seen.
That's great about the paint find...I didn't know they had them in small bottles either, I'll be on the lookout for them now!
