~Had I been lost..I would have thought myself Home~
It's the summer of 1836...vegetable gardens must be weeded, herb & flower gardens tended, wool to be carded & dyed, stitching to be done...baking & cooking to tend to. The young boys work in the fields with their fathers, the young girls work inside the home with their mothers. The local printing press, general store & tavern are open for business and folks mill about running errands on this warm summer day.
If I could..I would move to Sturbridge & work there full time. I was truly in heaven!
I took A LOT of pictures...

Going once is definitely NOT ENOUGH...for that matter, going for just one day at a time is not enough......It was SO INSPIRING!!! It really made me think about what I do..what I want to do...what I make and what I want to make. My favorite parts were the wool dyeing..the ANIMALS..the Printing Press..the General store was fantastic....the cooking/baking/sewing demonstrations AND the gardens...OH MY..well.....I just can not chose a favorite I guess.

23 delightful friends dropped in for a visit:
Doreen, your photos are AMAZING! What a beautiful, beautiful place...my birthday is Sept. 23, what a good birthday trip ;) I'd just have to get my silly self to Mass. ;)
glad you had such a great show! everything looks beautiful!
When I visit Sturbridge Village, I just want to move in. Give me a costume, put me in the garden or out with the turkeys, I'd be a happy gal. Your photos and text portrayed the village well. How I would love to have a white picket fence around my home. The only downfall of visiting Sturbridge is I come home with to many ideas! Thanks for sharing.
Heather...Hello! Thank you..you should definitely try to get there..I know YOU would be in heaven!
Hugs, D
Hello Julie. Me TOO!!! And both those places is exactly where I would be...I LOVED the turkey's..and the gardens were so fantastic!!! I loved it all so very much!
Have a wonderful day,
Doreen

Hi Doreen!
I was in the Sturbridge area some years ago and did not have the time to visit the village.
I am so sorry to see all that I missed! How wonderful you got to experience it all!
It's all too BEAUTIFUL!

Thank you ladies! It was a fantastic trip and I am looking so forward to September when we return. Now I need to get myself back into the studio and get busy creating or I shall have nothing to bring with me!
Hugs to all :)Doreen
Doreen,
Thank you! Thank you! And thank you again for sharing these wonderful pictures. It has been quite a few years since I strolled down those dirt covered roads. Your trip brought back some cool memories. I could almost smell freshly baked bread and hear the flapping of the clothes in the breeze as they dry on the line. Sturbridge is a magical place.
Thank you again for sharing you fantastic trip.
Donna
Hi Doreen-
I haven't visited Sturbridge, but Mumford is like it. It's not too far from us. We've been there half a dozen times I guess. I know what you mean about wanting to work at a place like that!

Doreen ~~
Love your pictures of Sturbridge; it makes me want to go back. I've only been once and I think that was about 20 years ago! I think I'm due for another trip.
Thank you for sharing and reminding me of my wonderful visit.
Laura
My favourite place to visit when I make it to the textile show at the Host Hotel in May, July or September.
I love the photo of the freshly dyed skeins of yarn hanging in the air to dry.
Have a great weekend.
Susan
Hi Doreen..
I peek in as often as I can...loved your pics of the show. Hope you had a good one...

Doreen... These photos are a feast for those of us who love and long for "the earlier years." It is like being transported back in time. Thank you for taking us with you! Daryle & katie
Oh Doreen, the comment about "Had I been lost..I would have thought myself Home" rang so true to how I felt when I visited SV and I felt it each time we went there - it's so serene and beautiful...hard work for those back then but oh so rewarding.
The setting is 'PERFECT' and I will go back again sometime - been there 3 times but it certainly wasn't enough.
Thanks so much for sharing your pictures with us....I don't know where my photos are - I think they are buried deep - guess I had better get them out and reminise.
Hugs, Karen

Hello! I stumbled upon your blog and I must say, I love it. :) It really is all about the little things in life, and you seem to capture that here. I was planning on going to Old Sturbridge Village a week from today for my first time since elementary school, and your pictures are making me excited all over again. Thanks for the smile, and have a lovely day. :)
