~Sugaring Season Is Here~

~It has begun~

Today we are tapping tree's, running lines, setting up gathering tanks and preparing the wood fired boiler!

Then, we quietly wait...............

.....As the morning sun slowly warms the air & the temperature begins to rise....there it is, that soft, hallow, plunking drip, drip, drip, as that wondrous sugary liquid splashes into the bottom of a sap bucket..oh what a wonderful sound!

And so...this years Sugaring Season begins!

I need to make this quick as our power is flickering and I'm worried it may go out again... but I wanted to tell you......we were hit yesterday with a MAJOR snow storm that dropped 21" of heavy, wet snow here in our area.....WOW!!!! With this one storm we made up for our previous lack of snow in a big way!!! It was a damaging snow though...it was/is so heavy..it broke branches, knocked down shrubs and trees and knocked out power to thousands of folks in our area...I think I had better stop wishing for big ole fashioned snow storms...this storm was a LOT of work..and now we have storm #2 on it's way here and bringing with it high winds and rain mixed in with the snow..if you do not hear from me...you will know..we've lost our power again!!

On the bright side....................it was unbelievably beautiful...I made homemade chicken vegetable soup, homemade rolls, took a nice long bubble bath in which I started reading "Eat, Pray, Love"..what a wonderful book!!!....and enjoyed the cozy fire and worked in the studio.....but I also helped my husband plow and shovel...holy smokes..that's a lot of work!!!!

Oh..I also want to share with you.....that.... my car is amazing!!!! I have a Subaru Outback..and ....I have always known it was great in the snow..I've had it for 3 years and not once...NOT ONCE..ever slid with this car...but let me tell you..yesterday..MY car drove up our driveway through 8" of heavy, wet snow...like it was nothing...NOTHING..it just crawled right up it...I was surprised..I may....3-4" of snow..sure..but 8"!!! MY goodness...that was amazing!!!!!!.I'm telling you..I could do a Subaru commercial... God I love my car!!!


Okay...I really need to shut this computer down before the power goes out..have a wonderful day everyone!!! D

~A One Of A Kind Little Mohair Moppet~

(Miss Dorset has been adopted & will be moving to Ohio with her new friend Margaret)

Good afternoon everyone. Please meet Miss Dorset......I'm so pleased with how she came out...she is my own design... fashioned after the wonderful old antique bears. I just love her long nose and just slightly too big feet..I also made her limbs long and thin...which I really like. I do think I'll tweak the pattern a bit.....I think I would like her tummy a bit larger. :)

It's funny how things come together.....when I first finished stitching her head together...I thought, "oh my, that nose is much too long" and I actually thought she would end up being a mouse .....but ....she insisted on being a bear..and you know..the long nose works.

It's amazing to me how expressive an inanimate objects face can be (goodness it felt wrong calling her that) I mean, of course..I'm the one creating their little faces..but..it still amazes me :).......

Well, it's time to start dinner now so I must run...we are having grilled chicken, couscous & green beans. By the way.....I am most excited about our weather forecast.....we are under a winter storm warning!!!!!!!!!wooohoooo!!!

~New Offerings~

Good morning. We awoke to 2" of fresh snow here in our area and oh my goodness, how lovely it is...we are so lacking for snow here that even a mere 2" is a blessing! Thankfully...they are predicting a real snow storm for tomorrow..oh I can hardly wait!

I have some new offerings to share today.... once again, I had hoped to have more new things to offer.....however, orders are still keeping me oh so busy and there just wasn't enough time. So, for now, I have two new blackened beeswax creations...two wonderful rabbits..both made from reproduction chocolate molds and both wonderfully detailed and lovely.

I am also working on this sweet little "Moppet"Miss Dorset...she isn't finished just yet...her attire & accompaniments await...she is my own design, so she took a bit longer to bring to life.... she is now finished..and oh so patiently waiting to be dressed..... OH, I just love her..... She will be dressed, photographed and ready for adoption later this afternoon....and I shall share her with you then :)

~A Blissful Niche~

I have finally found it!!!! It's such a satisfying feeling..it's hard to describe...it's joy and comfort, great pleasure..... pure elation...complete satisfaction. It's finally finding that thing which takes up all the hours in the day... and several in the evening... you step into your studio at 8am & in a flash.....it's 6pm.....the day has flown by in pleasure & delight & does not feel the slightest bit like you've just spent 10 hours at work!!!!!!

It's that feeling you had when you met your husband and you just knew "this is the person I'm suppose to be with"..and everything just kinda fell into place & the world just seemed calmer somehow......OR when your children were born and you realized.... "So THIS is what it means to LOVE"

It's wonderful!!!

The little bear lounging on top of my pile of mohair is a commissioned little fellow.. (he's almost ready Jan... he's waiting on his travel companion to finish packing!!!!).....Each time I make a new bear I just want to squeeze them..they are so darn cute..these little ones sit perfectly in the palm of my hand..I just love that!!!

The bear in the photograph is my constant inspiration...he was made in Germany between 1905 and 1910....I have had this picture for 5 years......!!! For 5 years he has been pinned to my bulletin board...patiently waiting for me to pay attention to him!!! My goal is to recreate him...I'm getting there...slowly but surely!!!

Now I'm off to make a batch of brownies and finish up a few things in the studio before it's time to start dinner (home made pizza). Before I do any of that though, I need to stoke the fire..it is absolutely bitter cold here today..just plain raw!
