Buttons and patches and the cold wind blowing.
The days pass quickly when I am sewing.

Tis cold here in Vermont with a bitter north wind blustering about....ahhhh, March you are so very fickle! I've a nice cozy fire going, chicken catetori simmering in the crock pot and a pot of coffee freshly brewed as I stitch away on a new set for my upcoming web show "A Spring Frolic." The weather suits what I am working on this afternoon as it is Winter in theme. When I was making notes and sketches.....trying to decide what to make for April's Web Show & in particular my Bear for the "Winter" Series ...I was starting to regret committing myself to such a thing every other month. Thankfully, as I was relaxing in bed later that evening, enjoying a good book, an idea started to form.... I jumped out of bed, ran to my desk and jotted down the idea, lest I forget it by morning :)
Finally today..I am finding the time to work on it...It will be a set & I've got one of the pieces stitched, turned, dyed & currently drying while I write this post. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will come together as I envision it..or at least somewhere in the vicinity..these moppets of mine tend to develop a mind of their own at a certain point and I just have to follow along and hope the two of us are somewhere close with our thoughts. :)
SO...ANYWAY...(good gracious I tend to veer off track a lot lately)..the reason for this post...

I wanted to share with you a little bit of what inspires me..If I were asked..I really think most of what inspires me is color..of course...the seasons, holidays and certain animals always inspire me..but all in all..I really feel the bottom line for me is color. I will see a color..or have a certain color on my mind continually until I go in search of a piece of fabric, a bit of ribbon, etc to match that color & then I build upon it. The ribbons in the above picture are an example of my recent color "loves" AND..I have found the most perfect shop to indulge my love of antique & vintage ribbons, lace and fabric! Vintage Tidbits..Oh how I love Patsy's wonderful items and a bonus..she's a bear maker and such a lovely lady! :) If you click on the photo above it will take you to Patsy's wonderful shop..you will not be disappointed..just please..leave something for me!
Okay I must be getting back to work...I just heard the dryer go off....but first before I go...tell me...what inspires you?
Enjoy the day
Hugs & smiles, Doreen

8 delightful friends dropped in for a visit:
reen ,I wonder are you aware that by sharing this with everyone that you have written the beginnings of an inspiring lecture !!!! I love all your beautiful new Bric A Brac as Gramma Croff would call them.I can't wait to see what you transform them into ,I know it will be beautiful.Love you MOM
So very many things inspire me! One of the foremost is God's amazing creation--in that is included wild bears, colorful fruits and vegetables, mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans, trees, birds, cats, rabbits...I could go on and on. :o) Color is a big inspiration, too, as is food. And all of that wraps into my memories of growing up on New Avenue, which is what I want to convey through my creations. Thank you for inspiring me to look at my inspirations. :o)
Hugs to you!
Deb

I think I too will start a fire, warms my husband's heart when he comes home to a warm hearth....
I have been so inspired lately, by easter mostly, that I can barely get any real work done. Working on pom pom bunnies now, after a day of making robin's eggs. Check them out on my blog.
I can't wait to check out Patsy's shop! thanks for more inspiration
Those colors and pieces surely make me feel spring! So pretty!
I am inspired by so many things - sometimes it is old textures and gatherings in the homes I get to visit and things with history - that were used lovingly for many years. Other times it is what I see in nature - the golden colors of the fall or the lush greens in spring.
And then I am inspired by the mood created with I read a wonderful blog post like this! I was just on Tasha Tudor's site and came here and hearth and home is filling my senses now!
Have a great time creating!
Hello D~ The seasons inspire me for sure, but also old fabrics..colors and textures like you mentioned..and stories too. Tis very cold here today also..hard to believe it was nearly seventy degrees just yesterday! Oh my! Can't wait to see your finished creations..always something lovely!

Hi Doreen!
Oh I just love the quote at the beginning of this post. How true it is! There are no better days to sew on then a cold and windy one. Add a little snow to the day and it's even better!
I can't wait to see your newest creation!
Have a lovely weekend.
Heather
Oh how nice. I have a craft/work room that I haven't been in for months! I was looking for something in there a couple of days ago and could feel the itch of creativity coming over me! I need to get back in there and see what I come up with!
