~Devastation in VT ..show preparations AND THEN...AN IDEA

Good evening everyone. Thank you ALL so much for your emails, calls and messages!!! We are doing fine here in The Frost household...well, as fine as you can be when a hurricane ravages and devastates your state and causes it to look like a war zone. Our home fared unbelievably well (Our furnace is the only thing we think we've lost) compared to many that is as if we won the lottery. It's heartbreaking. Our county...Rutland County was one of the hardest hit and to drive around and look at your neighborhood this way is truly.....well..honestly...it's so hard to describe...there are no words. Friends and neighbors having lost so much..............argh...I ...well..I'm going to stop there....

Tomorrow I have a show and ...if it were not for the fact that I am on the committee that puts on this show..I would not be doing it. Honestly, it feels so unbelievably wrong to me..I feel like I should NOT be worried about doing something that will cause me to make money right now... I have really been struggling this week...I feel like we should not be worried about ourselves right now...that we should be out there, cleaning up, bringing supplies and helping our neighbors....BUT then..this morning an idea came into my head!

Each creation that I made for the show is now named after a Vermont town that was affected by Irene...each comes with it's own specially made tag..explaining it's name, details, etc and I will be donating a good portion of my proceeds to those affected by our flood. Now I feel at least a little bit better..and next week....I will be out there..helping those in need.

Have a good night and thank you all so very much for your concern and friendship.

Wonderful idea, Doreen. Good thoughts coming from AZ for all your neighbors and friends. I noticed the bear named Woodstock...last time we were in Woodstock, the river was running high at that time, I think it was October a few years back... can't imagine it now.

What a great idea, Doreen! And it makes the bear extra special--- and now two people get to help, you and the purchaser of the bear. These would probably do well online too (wink wink) I'm so sorry about all the loss and damage. Who would have ever thought Vermont would be so devistated by a hurricane!~ Tornadoes are our problem here, and it is amazing the devestation that nature can unleash. Hope all gets better and restored soon~

That sounds like a wonderful idea. So sorry to hear of such devastation in Vermont. I know having gone over those covered bridges and seeing those rivers, that it is unbelievable that it could have got so bad. You may want to think about selling some of your creations on your blog or facebook and give others a chance to donate/participate. I know there are lots of people out there that would contribute. Have a blessed weekend ~Sara

What a lovely idea. It's always terrible to see just what havoc nature can wreak, but sometimes it helps, in the middle of all the stress of trying to recover, to do something 'normal' like visit a fair. Hope it's a great day for all concerned

Doreen,

What a heartwarming idea. Think of the show as a diversion, something fun to take everyone's mind off the destruction and loss. A way to escape for a few hours and enjoy the world of make believe.

You are doing a good thing. And I am so thankful that you are well. I didn't e-mail because I wasn't sure if you had power, but you have been in my prayers, the whole state of Vermont is.

Such a thoughtful thing to do Doreen! Sometimes even in the reality of making money, we can boost someones day. When I look at your creations, I smile. Hopefully many that have have been saddened by the devastation around them will too, forget for a moment about their troubles and smile.

Ah, here you are, Doreen. Glad you're back. The show's donations to the affected towns is a sweet, generous gesture. I know how you feel but you already had a commitment for the show so you shouldn't feel bad. It was an awful shock to see what happened so far inland to your state. You are only about 80 miles from me, I Google mapped it. We're just south east of Greenfield, MA and I hope my daughter and I can make it to one of your shows in the future.
Warm Regards,
Susan B., Western MA

I'm so sorry about your town. Your sadness is felt reading your blog. Such a good idea, I know you did well. I saw that you had a bear "Woodstock" That's where I went on my honeymoon. If he's still available, I'd love to buy him. Such a sweet town, I can't even imagine the way it is now. Someone once told me that tragedy brings people closer together. I think of that often when these things happen. It's hard to find something positive during bad times.

Wishing you all my best.
Big hugs~ Jenn
