Come, little leaves, Said the wind one day; Come to the meadows With me and play. Put on your dresses Of red and gold; For summer is past, And the days grow cold. Soon as the leaves Heard the wind's loud call, Down they came fluttering, One and all. Over the meadows They danced and flew, All singing the soft Little songs they knew. Dancing and flying, The leaves went along, Til Winter called them To end their sweet song. Soon, fast asleep In their earthy beds, The snow lay a coverlet O'er their heads. ~ George Cooper

Joyous Fall to you. September has positively flown by hasn't it. I can not get over how often these days I lose track of the hour, the day, etc.....exhausted though I may be.....I am having such a good time preparing for this Open House...Goodness, I hope I have a good turn out...I'm not expecting a huge crowd as it is my first one and I'm sure there will be glitches..but I am very excited!!!
~Hand crafted note cards, postcards and greeting cards, decoratively packaged with aged twine and early drieds.~

I had a particularly lovely day today. I spent the day finishing my new waxed paper cones...aged paper dipped in blackened beeswax & filled with Sweet Annie, dried Sage & Rose Hips, while I was sitting on the living room floor surrounded by dried flowers and paper cones.....

I had our homegrown pumpkin roasting in the oven...mmm, goodness did it ever smell delightful in here. I have actually never roasted pumpkin before but we have a garden full of crook neck pumpkins, and I could not let them go to waste so..I did a bit of research and found out that these particular pumpkins are perfect for cooking as they only have seeds in the very bottom of the pumpkin....it was very easy...I guess I know what I will be doing daily for the next week or so.... :)
I also roasted the seeds...YUM!!! Tasty and very good for you.
I think tomorrow morning I will make pumpkin bread.....
Wishing you a wonderful evening :) D

5 delightful friends dropped in for a visit:
Hi, Doreen, what a lovely day you had. It has rained all day and night here, more
expected for the next couple of days. I
should be harvesting my hydrangea in
between rain drops.
Warm Regards,
Susan
Hi Doreen,
I never roasted my pumpkins, I just boil them. Roasted sounds yummy.
Would you consider sharing your pumpkin bread recipe? I have tried several and they just don't impress me.
Your Open House is going to be wonderful, I'll be there.
If you have an invitation I would love to put it on my Blog sidebar. Just let me know.

Doreen,
I loved walking into your warm cozy home, candles always lit, something always cooking and you are always busy creating.I loved smelling that wonderful pumpkin roasting in the oven,it was indeed the taste of fall.It is funny how many things me the "Mom" have learned from you.I have never tried that but it was so good. I can not wait to see how everything comes together for your open house !!! I know however large or small your first one will be it will be a success as always. Love you Mom
Doreen, have a wonderful Open House, wish I didn't live so far away!! Hope you have a lovely day!! Hugs to you!!

Doreen and family... I appreciated so much your Sept. 2nd post and the generous outpouring of your concern for the "Vermont family" left in the wake of Irene's devastation. We were with our daughter and son-in-law, in Whiting, when the fury hit... They just bought their first home, an 1860 fixer-upper! He works for CVPS... so you know he was busy! They are fine and we made it back to south jersey the following Tuesday. Even here, we had bridges out, homes under 6 plus feet of water, etc. A 9th generation farm family up in Addison County dropped us a note last week saying he remembered the flood of 1927 and it paled in comparison to the devastation that Irene wrought. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Daryle
