When I was young there was a "cat lady" here in West Pawlet. Every Sunday, our family and our many Aunts, Uncles & Cousins would gather at my Grandparents house for dinner. Each Sunday after dinner was over, if the weather was nice, myself and my abundance of cousins' would head outside to wander and explore. We would often go down to the river to swim, throw rocks, wander aimlessly, build forts, etc....all those things that use to be safe for children to do on their own. Anyway, right before we headed out the door, one of our parents, gram or gramp, would say...."Remember to stay away from Maisey Warren's house ...she hates kids!!" There were an abundance of tales about this poor woman who, I have no idea to this day, if she really hated kids.. I am sure it was made up to scare us into behaving while we were out and about on our own. I CAN say, it certainly worked! As a matter of fact, it terrified us!!! We would literally tip toe past the dirt road which she lived on! From a distance you could make out the wobbly old shack where she lived, and which seemed to be the home of an insanely large amount of cats.
It's funny how a young mind works isn't it...it never once occurred to us that she might just be a nice old lady who loved cats and took in strays. Gracious no..we use to think she ate them!!!!

Maisey passed on years ago and not much remains of her house, but she's been on my mind quite a lot lately while working on Ferdinand, my new cat design. I wonder if I will some day be known as "The Cat Lady of West Pawlet"....And, if so, I hope the story has a nicer "tail" attached to it :).

He turned out just adorable. That's how we grew up to Sundays at Grandma's (still do) and then playing with the cousins. We had the crazy lady who we thought was a witch but never saw any kitty's there...smile...Have a wonderful week! Warm Blessings!~Amy
Doreen,I love to hear you recall all your memories from when you went to visit at Gramma's house. I wonder though if you remember the day she took myself and you kids,in the back of the old station wagon, for a ride on Dasiey's road. You had begin to doubt there warning so she wanted to show you that it was true. She drove place she called her home. Gram drove real slow past the house then turned around,as many dogs barked and cats ran in every direction.Just as we were right to the front of her house Daisy opened the door her long gray hair so unkept and a broom in her hand was all you needed to see to believe in the Cat Lady !!! Do you remember that day.I can not say if you will ever be know as the Cat lady, maybe the Bear lady but for sure you will be know as the gifted Artist and Writer that lived on the hill. LOVE YOU MOM
Hi, Doreen:
No one could ever mistake you for a crazy cat lady, a merry moppet lady maybe!

Hi Doreen,
Love sweet Ferdinand. He is very charming and full of personality, which is really captured in that first picture.
We also had a cat lady growing up. We thought she was a witch! You could only reach her home by going acrossed a bridge because it was surrounded by creeks. She's gone now also but looking at her home with grown-up eyes ~ it's a lovely old farmhouse. I think we probably would have been friends.
Wishing you the best day!
Warm hugs,
~Jenn
